After earning her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, Ohio, Sue Mako received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. She was a member of University of Toledo Law Review from 1972 to 1973. She was admitted to the Ohio Bar in In 1973, and admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1974; she has been admitted to the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Ohio and in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of North Carolina. From 1983 to 1986, she held the position of Deputy Director of the Ohio Supreme Court and taught at the Ohio Judicial College "New Judge's School". Ms. Mako was admitted to the N.C. Bar in 1988. Prior to establishing her own firm in Wilmington, Ms. Mako worked as an attorney at Baker & Jones, P.A. in Wilmington. From 1983 to 1986.
Ms. Mako has over thirty years of practice in a number of different areas of law, including personal injury, nursing home abuse, automobile accidents, truck accidents, workers’ compensation, and wrongful death. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, and the American Bar Association. R. Scott Girdwood gained admission to the North Carolina State Bar and to the U.S. District Court in 2004. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina State University in Raleigh and graduated magna cum laude. Mr. Girdwood earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the Campbell University School of Law in Buies Creek, North Carolina. He served as a writer and editor for the school’s Law Review from 2002 to 2004.
Mr. Girdwood's area of practice includes criminal defense, traffic violations, personal injury and workers' compensation.
Ashley Michael earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1999 from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. In 2006, she was graduated from the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia. She was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar that same year. Ms. Michael is highly proficient in all areas of family and juvenile law, including divorce and child custody proceedings.
